      Part of International Paper, CARPA collects used paper and cardboard from different points (offices, companies, industries, blue recycling bins). Once in the sorting plant, our Madrid mill transforms this material into our high-quality recycled containerboard. Our box plants then converts the paper into corrugated boxes that will be used to store, transport and display everyday consumer products before users dispose of them to be recycled again. 

International Paper’s Madrid mill uses 100 % recycled water in its papermaking process, which is recovered using a closed-loop system with our municipality. This makes us the first mill in Europe to produce 100% recycled paper with 100% recycled water. This translates to a very low level of water consumption per ton of paper produced, and the water is reused internally up to 13 times. The drinking water saving is equivalent to the consumption of a city with 60,000 inhabitants.

At our facilities, we operate our own power plant, via a Joint Venture with Iberdrola (Spanish electricity supplier) which allows us to be 100% electricity self-sufficient.

We also use self-generated biogas from our wastewater treatment plant to cover 25 % of the steam needed for our production.
