2018 Company Reports
Creating value for the future.
At International Paper, creating value for the future is all about people: employees, customers, suppliers, community members, shareowners and all other stakeholders. That’s why we’re highlighting a few of these people in our suite of 2018 reports. Learn more about the stakeholders featured on our report covers below.
President & CEO, Mid-South Food Bank
A member of the Feeding America® network, Mid-South Food Bank provides food for 400,000 food-insecure people in a 31-county service area. Estella joined Mid-South Food Bank 23 years ago and has been at the helm for the last eight years. “We see the impact of providing food to those in need every day,” she said. “Our partner agencies tell us stories of clients who are able to take better control over their lives when they are not worried about having enough food.” International Paper is proud to support food banks like Mid-South Food Bank as we seek to improve food security throughout our communities.
Kymani King Obasuyi
Kymani is a third-grader who loves reading class and enjoys playing soccer, singing and dancing when he’s not at school. He receives academic support and character development at Knowledge Quest, a non-profit organization in his community. Kymani attends Knowledge Quest's unique after-school program, which prioritizes hands-on learning experiences in subjects such as micro-farming, literacy and entrepreneurship. International Paper is proud to sponsor Knowledge Quest’s educational programs and their Green Leaf Learning Farm, a three-acre USDA Certified Organic urban, micro-farm that benefits student education, community and economic development, and healthy food access.
Corporate Purchasing, Sanderson Farms
International Paper has a long relationship with Sanderson Farms, one of the largest poultry producers in the United States. By partnering with our customer to develop innovative packaging solutions, Sanderson Farms is able to serve millions of consumers. Sanderson Farms supplies chicken to grocery stores across the country with our ClimaShield® packaging — corrugated boxes with an environmentally-friendly moisture barrier. Our team members regularly visit Dusty and his team at Sanderson Farms to ensure we exceed expectations and continue working together toward recyclable packaging solutions.
REACH Engineer, International Paper
REACH (Recruit, Engage, Align College Hires) is our college recruiting and development program for manufacturing engineers. Engineers like Skylar ensure our processes and paper machines run safely, reliably and efficiently. Skylar is a REACH engineer on the Environment, Health and Safety team at our operations in Columbus, Miss., which produce pulp and modified fiber our customers use to make diapers, wipes and feminine care products people depend on every day. “The REACH program is making the transition from college theories to real-life solutions less daunting,” she said. “I get to see the direct impact my work has on the lives of everyone here at the mill and beyond.”
More than 90 percent of International Paper’s fiber supply in the United States comes from privately owned forests, most of which are small and family-owned. We work with landowners like Richard to ensure the responsible management of the working forests from which we source. Richard’s father purchased his land in Macon, Miss., in 1942, and by 1959 Richard and his two sisters continued the hard work required to transform depleted timberlands into the healthy, sustainably managed working forest that their children nurture today. With support from International Paper, the Barge property holds both Forest Stewardship Council® and America Tree Farm System® certifications.
Export Strategy Manager, International Paper
Jing has worked for International Paper for six years, and in that time she has worked in all three of our businesses – Papers, Global Cellulose Fibers and Industrial Packaging. She most enjoys the global nature of her current role, as she has had opportunities to work with colleagues and customers from a variety of cultures. “My experience has led me to be more curious and to learn new things about the world every day,” she said. Furthermore, Jing says she is proud to work for an ethical company that leads the way in responsible forest stewardship. “The more I learn about our products and the role International Paper plays in forest stewardship, the more proud I am.”
